Last March 1st, I was approached by a somewhat eccentric bookshop in Ginza to put together a book of sketches. I was showing the handmade sketchbook I always carry around to shopowner Yoshiyuki Morioka, and without hesitation he proposed publishing, and so I started working on this book. At first I did simple sketches of my everyday surroundings, but it gradually began to feel too vague and boundless, so thinking I needed to shape the project more clearly as a book, I decided to go draw in Ginza as a focus. Fine, I told myself, there are so many songs about Ginza, maybe I'll just sketch while listening through earphones to get me in the spirit.
